MagSi-DNA Animal

Extraction of DNA from Animals

From disease diagnostics and genetic screening to pedigree verification and wildlife conservation, the multifaceted applications of Animal DNA have ushered in a new era of precision and reliability in assessing animals’ health, traits, and relationships.

DNA Extraction from Animals

This complete MagSi-DNA Animal kit allows for fast and cost-effective extraction of genomic DNA from various animals and samples like blood, semen, hairs, saliva/swabs or lysed tissue.

Universal

This universal DNA purification kit is optimized to extract DNA from sample materials with the highest purity and delivers DNA which is suitable for genotyping assays or other PCR based analyses.

Validated chemistry

The extraction chemistry has been validated on many different animal species, e.g. horse, swine, dog, cattle, fish, shrimp, insects and molluscs and can be customized to meet any specific requirements of yields, purity, working volumes.

Accessory materials to be offered with MagSi kits for DNA extraction

All DNA extraction kits include a final drying step to remove traces of ethanol before DNA elution.
Wash Buffer III eliminates this step, resulting in faster protocols and DNA with higher purity.

TECHNICAL DATA | MagSi-DNA Animal

Livestock 1. Nucleic acid concentration obtained from DNA extractions from whole blood of different animal species (n=3). Chicken and turkey blood was lysed for 1 hour, mammalian blood was lysed for 10 min (from Application Note #17)

Livestock 2. DNA purity obtained after DNA extractions from whole blood of different animal species. All purity ratios indicate highly pure DNA (A260/A280 > 1.7) (from Application Note #17)

Livestock 3. Ct values obtained from qPCR after extraction from whole blood of different animal species (n=3). For Chicken and turkey 1 μL eluate, for all others 4 μL eluate, where used as PCR input (from Application Note #17)

Aquaculture 1. DNA concentrations of different fish species obtained with the QubitTM dsDNA BR Assay Kit. The different input amounts (10, 20 and 40 mg) resulted in a DNA yield ranging from 16 to 225 ng/μL. The data presented are mean values (n= 8, ±1 SD) (from Application Note #18)

Aquaculture 2. DNA purity ratios of different fish species obtained by UV-VIS with the NanoDropTM One. The data presented are mean values of DNA extractions from 20 mg sample (n= 8, ±1 SD). (from Application Note #18)

Aquaculture 3. Ct values obtained from DNA extracted from trout and cod fin by PCR using primers targeting the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene (cox1). DNA samples were 1:10 diluted before PCR. Ct values between 18 and 22 are reported by the AriaMx Real-Time PCR system (10, 20, 40 mg). The data presented are mean values (n= 8, ±1 SD). (from Application Note #18)

Shrimp 1. DNA concentrations obtained with the QubitTM dsDNA BR Assay Kit. The different shrimp parts resulted in a DNA yield ranging from 21 to 115 ng/μL. The data are presented as mean (n=8, ±1 SD). (from Application Note #19)
Shrimp 2. DNA purity ratio’s for different parts of shrimp obtained by UV-VIS with the NanoDropTM One. High purity ratios are measured for the extracted DNA from all shrimp parts. The data are presented as mean (n=8, ±1 SD). (from Application Note #19)

Shrimp 3. Ct values for different shrimp parts. Ct values range from 17 to 27. The data are presented as mean (n=8, ±1 SD). (from Application Note #19)
